Backup Avenue was contacted by the assistant to the CIO?of a company serving public authorities, which comprised 300 sites distributed throughout the French territory, in addition to its headquarters.
The person who called on Backup Avenue was specifically in charge of the problems related to data backups. They wanted to improve their backup plan, since they knew it could be enhanced. While the backups at company headquarters were satisfactory, it seems that the backups at the 300 sites were handled in a haphazard fashion by local teams who were not trained to do this task. In addition, the responsibility for making backups of the sales force's 500 laptop computers was entirely up to the users; the recurrent inability to recover data following technical malfunctions was proof that this process left much to be desired.
The "corporate accounts" consultant at Backup Avenue applied a tested methodology to handling the case: |

 |
 |
Audit of the existing backup plan / definition of the new backup scope:
Identification, by means of interviews with the technical and operational teams, of the risks and points for improvement, followed by definition of the backup perimeter -
critical data at the 300 remote sites in France (50 GB: sales, billing and accounting) + office automation data on the sales force’s 500 laptops (3 GB: presentations, proposals, contracts, etc.).
Suggestion of an initial approach:
: a pilot program for 4 weeks covering 5 remote sites in 5 different regions and on 10 sales force laptops. |
|
Analysis of the pilot program and technical validation:
:: conducting and analyzing the pilot program will enable the Backup Avenue technical team to validate and even optimize the planned approach together with the company’s IT manager.
Detailed proposal based on the results of the pilot program: thanks to the data collected in the pilot program, the corporate accounts consultant can submit a detailed proposal to the IT manager: project approach, rollout timetable, scheduled reporting, project team, and, of course, rates (monthly subscription for each laptop and site). |
|
Rollout
: the agents for laptops can be rolled out in 2 weeks thanks to the rollout function of the CDP agent / definition of a common backup profile.Setting up the agents on the servers of the 300 sites is done (remotely) by the Backup Avenue team within 4 weeks.
Recurring management:Backup Avenue takes charge of supervising backups and provides the customers with dedicated support as well as weekly reports that are tailored and upgraded to meet needs, presenting a summary of backup and restore operations (Internet console + daily push reports). |

This company has now been a Backup Avenue customer for 18 months. The backup mechanisms were completed, from the beginning of the online backups, since 30 sites located in foreign countries and the executives' laptops are now backed up by Backup Avenue, in addition to the 300 French sites and 500 laptops used by the sales force.
This customer case history is a good illustration of the advantages of the backup services provided by Backup Avenue.
- Complementary internal and remote backups: management of the backups at headquarters is always overseen by in-house teams, while the backups of laptops and remote sites are entrusted to Backup Avenue.
- An economic and rational solution: business users only pay for what they back up (price per computer and per site), unlike internal backups, which can involve heavy investments in hardware and human resources, which never fully correspond to the tasks at hand (due to the problems of sizing and load increases)
- A simple, consistent solution:
unlike internal backup procedures, which can be rather lengthy, Backup Avenue's service is easy to set up (it only takes a few weeks, thanks to Backup Avenue's tools and know-how). Our service makes it possible to streamline data backups from different environments (remote sites, laptops), so it can maintain complete control over management of the backup process (consistent, summarized, centralized reporting). |
